Our Lady of Health Higher Secondary School
Our Lady of Health Higher Secondary School has almost a century of history. For those who see the school's present status with its huge building, beautiful campus and enormous stature, it is difficult to imagine its humble beginnings. In the year 1917, Our Lady of Health Tamil Primary School was started. What began as a small school in the coastal village of Vailankanni soon saw tremendous developments. It was upgraded as a Middle School in 1956 and as a High School in 1977. In the year 1985, when XI and XII sections were added, classes from I to V were segregated and made a separate unit under the name Our Lady of Health Primary School, while higher classes together became "Our Lady of Health Higher Secondary School".
The school is located on the main road to Vailankanni, within the easy reach of the students. The school is a much sought after destination for students, not only because of the excellent infrastructure, location and past laurels, but also because of the quality education it offers and the results it produces year and year.
Very Rev A Michael, Rector, Shrine Basilica, is the correspondent. Rev Fr J Antonysamy is the Headmaster. The school has a team of 38, 4 teachers who give their best for the growth of the students. A total number of 1900 students - both boys and girls - study here.
Attached to the School are two Boardings, run and subsidized by the Shrine.
- 1. Don Bosco Home for the Boys: About 75 boys stay here. The Home is situated within the school campus. Rev Fr Joseph Arockiasamy is the priest in-charge of the boarding. He also serves the Shrine as a Confessor.
- 2. Don Bosco Home for Girls: About 40 girls study here. The Home which was earlier functioning in an old building near the Shrine Auditorium was shifted to a brand new building at St Mary's Thope in June 2010. Sisters of St Anne administer the Boarding.
